Fans lie at the heart of air treatment systems in industrial and civil spaces, with control systems ensuring peak efficiency and optimal comfort.

If fan speed and flow rates are properly controlled, noise, consumption, mechanical wear and tear and power requirements are reduced; heavy, cumbersome components can be removed and customers can rely on equipment compliant with European directives.

Some fan control systems still use traditional electro-mechanical equipment like on/off controls or star-delta starting systems, but they are less reliable , efficient , and do not last as long.

These technologies can be unstable, with fluctuating parameters, current spikes and high levels of wear and tear.

However, the industry has now been revolutionized by electronic control as it can control fan operation gradually and accurately, dynamically responding to load conditions.

Selpro designs and manufactures both standardized and customized electronic solutions that are compatible with different types of fans (axial, radial and centrifugal, with asynchronous (AC) and synchronous electronic switching motors) that can be easily integrated into operating systems.

Accurate fan speed control significantly reduces noise, with decibel levels adjusting in proportion to the fan speed. Specific functions like night-RPM mode also reduce electricity consumption and help meet requirements in environments where noise levels have to be kept extremely low.

Advanced algorithms like PID control (also available in Auto-Tuning mode) are also used to optimize the function of heat exchangers, permitting significant energy savings and reduced consumption. Energy savings can also be increased by employing the free cooling function as it uses outside air to cool the system without turning on the cooling unit.

The power surges that play havoc with on/off systems are eliminated by electronic management, so components are protected against electric and thermal shocks and the mechanical components live longer. Water hammering and sudden pressure change problems are also eliminated so operation of the entire system is stabilized, mechanical parts are protected and performance is optimized.
