Company
Experts in ventilation system control
Selpro Srl is an Italian company, active since 1978 in the design and production of electronic control devices for ventilation systems across a wide range of applications. It started its business with intensive livestock farming, and later expanded in industrial HVAC&R.
Continuous innovation has always been at the heart of our technical approach, enabling us to stay ahead of market demands.
In partnership with leading HVAC&R companies, we combine R&D expertise with innovation to provide complete hardware and software solutions for controlling and managing single-phase and three-phase asynchronous electric (AC) and synchronous (electronic switching) fan motors, while developing products and devices for adiabatic systems.
Our solutions have now become industry standards and Selpro is a reference point for any company that is seeking a partner as much as a supplier; together, we can develop reliable, high-performing solutions with customer support provided at all stages of the process.
Born to innovate and craft unique solutions in the industry
Selpro was founded in February 1978 with the development of the 1-RA thermostat (Automatic Controller), designed for proportional speed control of single-phase fans in dynamic suction systems installed in environments with particularly challenging electricity systems, such as intensive livestock farming facilities
Selpro introduced the RGF-1 (Cooling Unit Controller) series (the first external rotor fan controller for single-phase AC motors) and the RGF-3 series (the first three-phase multi-input controller for AC motors) in association with Ziehl-Abegg Italia and Generatori di Freddo (GDF) of Verona, leading companies in the industrial refrigeration industry specializing in single-body units.
The RGF series laid the foundations for the Selpro Plug & Play system, representing the first range of Selpro devices dedicated to the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry. They were the first innovative "specialized" devices designed to control the temperature/pressure of a ventilated condenser in a cooling unit through dynamic fan speed control.
Selpro developed the RGV-1 analog controller in association with Hiross, a pioneer in air-conditioning systems for floating floors, to dynamically control Ziehl-Abegg single-phase centrifugal motors installed in CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioner) systems.
The device was designed to efficiently control the power generated during the motor control phase thanks to phase-cut control balanced with the main supply, and was the first Flexible Space System ventilation cabin specialized controller.
RGV-1 enabled allocation of the remote 0-10 Vdc command on a proportional basis within the configurable min e max VAC power limits, optimizing the accuracy and operating efficiency of the ventilation system.
Selpro consolidates its technical expertise and makes its mark by introducing advanced multi-functional solutions.
RGF300 was launched in 1986, the first analog Master & Slave multi functional controller with a three-phase "0-cross” power system to manage inputs and multiple sensors with control signals in mA, Vdc and NTC C°. Designed to operate in outdoor environments (IP55), it is a reliable, versatile device used to control remote condensers and dry coolers for critical applications. This innovation established a new standard for the electronic control of remote fan-cooled condensers with AC motors in the HVAC&R industry.
In1992, an important distribution agreement was signed with Carel S.p.A., enhancing the presence of the company in the air-conditioning and refrigeration industries.
Between 1998 and 2001, Selpro began to work closely with LUVE-Contardo, establishing a series of pioneering solutions for the intelligent control of fan-cooled heat exchangers.
In 1998 the Multitasking software was written, a digital Master & Slave platform designed for the coordinated management of fans and adiabatic WS/AWS systems in Wet & Dry mode.
In 1999, the DSV/RUS unit was introduced, the first on the market to use sinusoidal technology (Hybrid-Power) with no harmonic distortion (THD% = 0), ideal for sensitive environments like data centers, hospitals and residential areas due to total EMC compatibility and no noise or electromagnetic disturbances.
In 2000, the RGM 300 controller was introduced, the first digital device for three-phase AC motors, along with 12 preconfigured software programs and automatic management of the Water Spray system.
In 2001, Selpro designed the WS100 unit for multistage control of adiabatic systems with harmonized air-water logic and Legionella-Free operation, becoming the technical point of reference for the advanced control of remote condensers and adiabatic dry coolers.
Selpro sped up the digital innovation process by focusing on systems to control AC and electronic switching motors, stepping up its cooperation with industry leaders.
In 2005, at the request of UNIFLAIR (now Schneider Electric), it developed the ESY series, an analog control unit for single-phase AC motors and designed specifically for fan-cooled heat exchanger applications.
ESY uses the Plug & Play system (with no programming necessary) to simultaneously manage both Master (through sensors in mA, Vdc or kohm) and Slave modes (through 0-10 Vdc signals), automatically choosing the command signal with the highest value. The device ensures maximum flexibility, ease of use and fast installation.
In2009, along with LUVE-Contardo, it provided TRANE with one of the first systems for the integral management, through Modbus, of an adiabatic dry cooler with electronic switching motors for the Apple European cloud: the EC-Manager (ECM).
In 2010, the complete range of electronic switching motor controllers was introduced at the MCE fair: EC-Manager (ECM), EC-Plus (ECP), EC-Basic (ECB) and EC-Nano (ECN), all equipped with the IES (Intelligent Energy Saving) algorithm, integrated for the advanced control of electronic switching motors and efficiency optimization in adiabatic dry cooler ventilation systems.
Selpro consolidates its leadership in electronic switching technology, obtaining official recognition and developing solutions with increasingly advanced control functions.
In2012, the EC-Manager (ECM) obtained double certification from ebm-papst (Green-Intelligence) and Ziehl-Abegg (EC-BLUE).
In 2014, the Air & Water Manager (AWM) was developed, a system to coordinate electronic switching fans and other adiabatic cooling devices, optimizing the combined use of air and water in cooling.
AWM allows for the advanced management of adiabatic sources through the advanced combination of the SPRAY system and Adiabatic Panels, with a reduction in water consumption of up to 95% if compared with Cooling Towers.
In 2015, in association with Emerson Network Power (now Vertiv), an algorithm was developed to manage remote condensers in systems with Copeland Digital-Scroll compressors, ensuring the stable, efficient control of the ventilation system for both applications with single-phase AC motors (ESD series) and three-phase ones (VTM & RDM series)
Selpro expands its range with tools and software conceived to improve the efficiency, configuration and maintenance of electronic switching systems.
In2016,, EC-Program and EC-Service were introduced at the Chillventa fair, two packages designed for the configuration and support of electronic switching motors in Modbus networks.
In2017,, in association with Thermokey, the control electronics for Evaporative Panel Systems (EPS) were developed for adiabatic dry coolers.
In 2020, Modulo was developed, a patented electronic instrument that makes management of electronic switching motors available to everybody through the Modbus protocol. It functions as an active interface between the remote controller and the electronic switching fans, automatically converting the analog commands (Vdc or mA) into the Modbus protocol chosen. It reduces installation times by 80% while checking the connections and automating the addressing and programming of the electronic switching fans. The advantages of energy efficiency and connectivity for Industry 4.0 can be exploited by anyone with Modulo
Selpro consolidates its position at international level, obtaining important certificates and taking part in technologically advanced projects.
In 2022, it qualified as a TRANE supplier, confirming the high quality standards of its processes.
In 2023, it launched the Q series, an electronic control panel for continuous control of electronic switching motors using the Modbus RTU protocol.
In 2024, the EC-Manager (ECM) was chosen for the E-ELT telescope on the Cerro Armazones mountain in Chile to control the Ziehl-Abegg electronic switching motors in the SIRE dry coolers.
